Junk lamp

This scrap metal lamp came about in rather the same way as many of my projects; trying to highlight the fact that materials, even though they may have reached the end of their life as the things they had been intended for, can still have a valuable ‘new’ and useful function when they are repurposed.

My starting point for the Scrap Metal Lamp project, was to confine myself to 1 Kilo of scrap metal costing £6 and see how I could begin to make it more valuable than it’s raw material cost.

The Scrap Metal Lamp went on to be part of an exhibition that was held in a Beach hut on Brighton sea front. The exhibition showed various artists work that addressed the issue of value, and considered whether an object might become more precious if it was handmade.
